Major League Baseball will honor the legacy of Jackie Robinson, the first Black player to breach the league's color line, every April 15, beginning with a national celebration at Shea Stadium, according to baseball commissioner Bud Selig.
Selig recently announced Jackie Robinson Day, saying "we are further ensuring that the incredible contributions and sacrifices he made--for baseball and society--will not be forgotten."
Robinson will be honored each year at all major league ballparks hosting a game on the anniversary of the date he broke baseball's color barrier in Brooklyn. Fenway Park and stadiums in Philadelphia and San Diego will be among 13 parks ...
