Believe it or not, the March, 1934 edition of the California Grape Grower (now Wines & Vines) is the Champagne issue.
In his "History of Champagne Making in California," our editor has several interesting observations, such as Paul Masson Champagne: "For 25 years prior to Prohibition, Paul Masson manufactured natural Champagne in the Santa Clara Valley." My father-in-law, as a car dealer and salesman, knew M. Masson, and he often told me that Masson carried a case of his California bubbly in the trunk of his car wherever he went.
