The Post Office, still reeling from outrage over a wave of branch closures, is failing to convince critics that it is committed to keeping a widespread branch network.
And a bungle by Post Office bosses that led to the closure of the largest post office in Romford, Essex, last week, has done nothing to stem the wave of criticism.
The lease for the branch in the Laurie Walk shopping centre expired nine days ago, but the Post Office failed to renew it. As a result, the branch was closed and customers were given only a couple of day's notice. No temporary or replacement service has been set up.
