The recent Oscars ceremony stirred up mixed emotions for Kiera Chaplin. The model/actress granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, the silent movie genius whose films include The Gold Rush, City Lights and Modern Times, was not yet born when her grandfather collected his Academy Award for his 'incalculable effect in making motion pictures the art form of the century'.
It was 1972 and Chaplin was 82 years old, having made the arduous journey from his home in Switzerland to Hollywood in order to collect his honour. It was the first time he had set foot in America in 20 years, having left the country after being questioned for suspected communist ...
