I gripped my armrest a little harder than usual as our 14-seat puddle-jumper churned through the blue, blue sky en route from Belize City to Placencia.
Out one side, I saw turquoise sea dappled by cloud shadows; out the other was wild, undeveloped terrain. Ten minutes into our flight, I finally began to relax - until my husband pointed to the rickety door and joked: "What's this bolt for?"
