Syracuse University professor Tom Sherman has won a prestigious national award from Canada for his three decades of work in the field of video art.
The Canada Council for the Arts will honor Sherman, the winner of the 2003 Bell Canada Award, in a ceremony Tuesday in Toronto. The award also includes a $10,000 prize.
Sherman, a citizen of Canada and the United States, is the first winner in the 13-year history of the award to live in the United States and to have dual citizenship.
"It means a lot," he says. "It's very sophisticated up there in terms of media. I'm really pleased to be recognized."
