Marine Harvest filed a formal court response in mid-February denying Lafjord USA's charges that it intentionally sabotaged a smoked salmon contract with Lafjord and Costco Wholesale in order to sell directly to Costco.
Marine Harvest, owned by Netherlands-based Nutreco, filed a $5.85 million counter claim accusing Lafjord of breach of contract. Lafjord paid Marine Harvest only $150,766 of the $5.85 million owed for 27 smoked salmon shipments between May and November 2003, according to the documents. In addition to damages, Marine Harvest seeks interest and attorneys' fees.
