DES MOINES, Iowa, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- A seven-year project that has grown from a modest, commemorative sculpture to a $20 million memorial park will welcome its first visitors this summer. The Fort Des Moines Memorial Park & Education Center -- America's greatest memorial to black and female soldiers -- will be dedicated with a weekend of activities July 23-25, 2004.
The five-acre park and museum has been built at in Des Moines at Fort Des Moines -- the site of the U.S. Army's first black officer candidate class in 1917 and first Women's Army Auxiliary Corp (WAAC) in 1942.
