With his neat hair, preppy clothes and diffident stage persona, David Byrne was always an unlikely punk rocker. Yet his band, Talking Heads, were one of that seminal Class Of '77, surfing on the same new wave as the Ramones and Blondie, the Sex Pistols and the Clash. Since then, Byrne has gone on to produce a body of work that far exceeds any of them in range and scope.
