Mar. 31--Altoona's two hospitals announced merger plans yesterday that a local hospital leader said should be considered as a model for Johnstown.
Directors at Altoona Hospital and Bon-Secours Holy Family Hospital approved a tentative merger that would improve care and save the hospitals millions of dollars.
"The five-year projection for savings is $32 million," Altoona Hospital spokesman Ron McConnell said in a conference call with Bon Secours spokes-man Dave Cuzzolina.
Most of the savings will come by ending duplication and not buying, upgrading or replacing ...
