A small crowd formed Tuesday near the pond on the campus of Luther Village in Arlington Heights - the better to see what they had waited for through the dead of winter: the return of the swans, which surely signals the start of spring, residents said.
"We love to watch them, they are so graceful when they swim," Dorothy Behrens said. "They just add so much to the place."
The swans had spent the winter not at some warm retreat in the south, but at Rolling Knolls Country Club in Elgin, where owner Tom Schneider keeps nearly 70 swans during the off-season, including those owned by apartment ...
