MERSEYSIDE'Seconomy could still be lagging behind the national average 10 years from now,despite the big gest spending spree in the region's history.

A report published today by the Mersey Partnership shows that the area has one of the country's fastest-growing economies.

But two decades of decline have left Liverpool and its neighbours trailing behind most of the country,placing Merseyside's economic performance at fourth from bottom in a national chart.
