The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. (EADS) said yesterday it was awarded a $24.2 million contract from ViaSat [VSAT] to deliver 400 power amplifiers for the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS).

EADS topped what it called "strong competition from the U.S. based the precision and reliability of equipment previously supplied." According to an EADS statement, the amplifier is the core component of the MIDS solution.

ViaSat is partnered with Harris [HRS] on one U.S. team competing for MIDS contracts. ...
