On Monday evening 16-year-old Jenny Docherty sat tucked in a corner of her St. Paul home, working ahead on exams and preparing for a week in St. Louis.
"I feel so bad," said her mother, Bev, feeling responsible for the extra workload.
Bev Docherty, 45, has qualified for every women's Olympic marathon trials race since the event was added in 1984. Saturday, in St. Louis, she will seek her sixth consecutive trials finish, something no other runner, male or female, has done.
For Jenny, her three siblings, their dad, Jim, and scads of relatives, that's worth a little extra effort to see.
