Seventeen architectural firms have designs on expanding the Will County jail.
The county is seeking to put an addition onto the Adult Detention Facility in Joliet because the current facility is overcrowded.
Estimates for the project range from $40 million to $70 million, but members of the county's capital improvements committee on Wednesday didn't talk costs.
Instead, they waded through 17 applications from architects eager to do the work.
A dizzying array of compact discs and massive binders covered three tables by the time officials finished opening the proposal packets.
