It began with severe stomach cramps.
Attending a health care conference in Texas during October, Larry Sanders felt ill. He tried to rest. Over 36 hours, the pain worsened. Rather than go see a doctor in Austin, the Columbus, Ga., resident boarded an airplane home. By the time he left the Atlanta airport in his car his stomach was "so distended I had to not only unbutton my pants but unzip them too."
He telephoned his wife Bonnie, a registered nurse and told her she might have to come get him on the side of the interstate. A few hours later, Sanders was in The Medical Center being tested.
