What better time to start a search for Wisconsin's new poet laureate than during National Poetry Month?
Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton saw fit to do exactly that on the first day of April with a news conference at the State Capitol.
A Poet Laureate Nomination Commission appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle will receive applications and recommend three finalists to the governor, who will choose the laureate.
The four-year term of the first state poet laureate, Ellen Kort, will end in September.
Requirements for the position include:
Proven level of skill in writing and reading poetry.
