COSTA MESA, Calif. -- After threats of legal action and a boycott by California gay-rights group, South Coast Plaza changed its official employment policy last week to prohibit discrimination against employees because of their
sexual preference.
The change, which adds "sexual preference" to protected categories such as race, religion and sex, came after gay activists released a South Coast Plaza internal memo, dated November 1989, that they said showed the mall refused to hire and promote gays and lesbians.
