Apr. 6--Sulfur dioxide pollution from Yellowstone Valley's major industries dropped 10 percent last year to a near-record low.
Jim Hughes, an environmental specialist with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, said preliminary annual reports from the seven industries showed they pumped 13,610 tons of sulfur dioxide into the air in 2003, down from 15,200 tons in 2002.
The last time sulfur dioxide pollution was that low was in 1999.
"It's moving in the right direction," Hughes said of the valley's longtime major air pollutant.
