SAN ANTONIO _ Jazz fans remember the birth of the cool. So do college basketball fans _ and it happened 25 years ago.
It might seem that the Final Four has been part of the national consciousness forever, but it wasn't until 1979 that so many started caring. For a generation of basketball fans, all those who stay glued to the television during March Madness, it all began with Michigan State and Indiana State. Earvin "Magic" Johnson led his Spartans to a 75-64 victory over Larry Bird's Sycamores, and suddenly everything changed.
