Apr. 7--With a National Rifle Association lawsuit looming, Contra Costa supervisors on Tuesday gave final approval to a ban on the sale of .50-caliber rifles in the county's unincorporated areas.
It will apply to two gun dealers, neither of which sell the powerful weapon. However, supervisors say they hope cities will follow suit with similar ordinances.
"This is the first step toward making Contra Costa a safer place," said Supervisor John Gioia of Richmond. "And it could ultimately lead to a statewide ban."
