The draft environmental liability system for Antarctica is due to have an impact on EU legislation, particularly on Council Regulation (EC) No 44/2001 of December 22, 2000 on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters. This is why the European Commission believes it is so important for the EU to take part in these negotiations.
