Two years after rocketing to the big time on what the New Yorker calls ``debauched, jaded, fin-de-hippie rock of the Velvet Underground,'' the Strokes still have plenty of fuel left to go on. But keeping up with the pace of the their meteoric rise took some figuring out, band members say.
In October, the band released ``Room on Fire,'' an album that builds on the volatility of the 2002 debut ``Is This It,'' which helped touch off the new garage rock movement. That term, of course, annoys Albert Hammond Jr.
