Starting next month and continuing for three years, the Seattle Art Museum will play an architectural version of peekaboo with its audience, closing, opening, closing and finally opening again.
It's the price of progress as SAM expands downtown and builds an eight-acre Olympic Sculpture Park on the waterfront.
In March, SAM will seal off the northwest galleries on the third and fourth floors downtown. That drilling sound will not be part of an art installation. It will come from construction crews linking the new museum with existing galleries.
