John Hunkin, president and CEO of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, says the bank will do something to protect CIBC's Aerogold Visa cardholders' bonus points should Air Canada and its Aeroplan LP frequent-flier program liquidate. During a question-and-answer session yesterday at the Canadian Financial Services Conference in Montreal, Hunkin said, "I don't want to speculate (about Air Canada's future) but it would be our job to make sure we can provide an offer that would continue to hold those clients."
