Oregon is Ralph Nader country. Or rather, Oregon was Nader country four years ago. Maybe it isn't anymore. After Nader's presidential nominating convention fizzled in Portland on Monday, estimates of the independent candidate's appeal and influence are due for a downward revision.
Nader's first student public interest research group was established in Oregon. A 10,000-person rally in Portland helped energize his 2000 presidential campaign.
