Hands-on teaching experiences have been used successfully in demonstrating basic concepts of the biological sciences, especially with undergraduate students. Techniques of electrophoresis using a commercial DNA fingerprinting kit and the ability to visualize physiological measurements using the computer based BIOPAC system, were found to be most beneficial for understanding basic physiological principles during instructional teaching laboratory exercises.
