High gasoline prices fuel campaign clash
As increased demand and oil cartel shenanigans drove the average gasoline price to a record $1.78 last week--62 cents higher than the average for the Clinton years--Sen. John Kerry got ready to rev up his charge that President Bush is to blame. In addition to Kerry's attacks on current energy policy and diplomacy, campaign insiders say the challenger also will accuse Bush of lying when he failed to repeal a 1990s gas tax as his campaign aides said he would. Kerry's folks plan to assert that Bush's failure to repeal the tax is just like his dad's "Read my lips: no new taxes" flip-flop. The new assault: "Don't read his ...
