DETROIT _ Detroit Tigers manager Alan Trammell rested a few left-handed-hitting regulars Wednesday night against Toronto left-hander Ted Lilly. Left-handed-hitting first baseman Carlos Pena has hit so well this season that Trammell kept him in the lineup. Good idea.
Pena ripped a two-run double off the right-centerfield fence at Comerica Park to key a four-run first inning. After Toronto crept within two runs, Pena tripled in the sixth off left-hander Valerio De Los Santos and scored the Tigers' final run in a 5-3 victory.
The Tigers are 6-2, and Pena is 7-for-9 off left-handers.
