NASSAWADOX -- The hired gun steps out of his van, grabs a long, red plank out of the back and slings it over his shoulder.
He lugs it toward a pasture, where a group of people have been waiting.
He stretches bungee cords to lash the plank to a post, hammers a pole into the earth to ground his electric clippers, watches as farmhands lay a piece of plywood on a muddy spot near him.
"Turn that around this other way, please," he says.
