We often throw around common phrases when we have no common understanding of what they mean. What exactly does common sense mean? People who have it use it rather than talk about it, so they are not able to describe it very clearly. People who don't have it talk about it, but their words are annoyingly empty.
Mark Twain had the best definition I ever read. He said, "Common sense is the simple knack of seeing something the way it is and doing something the way it should be done." What could be easier than that? But if it were so easy, why is common sense so uncommon?
