COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The first carrying concealed weapons permit in Ohio was issued to State Representative Jim Aslanides at midnight on April 8th, before Aslanides went through a proper criminal background check, according to the Columbus Dispatch (4/15/04). The background check was eventually completed later that morning. One of the key public safety provisions to obtain a CCW permit in Ohio is that applicants pass a criminal background check and complete a training course before a permit is issued.
