2004 APR 20 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Sentinel node biopsy may avoid complete lymph node dissection in some cases of breast cancer.
For the treatment of early breast cancer, an international consensus concluded that sentinel node biopsy was an "accepted method for axillary staging in breast cancer", wrote investigators from Germany.
"Since numerous questions associated with the technique are still not defined, and the procedure itself is not yet standardized, the German Society of Senology defined the conditions for the routine clinical use of sentinel node biopsy in an interdisciplinary consensus meeting" in 2003, explained T. Kuhn and colleagues.
