2004 APR 20 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Researchers report that tumor suppressor mutations in the nervous system result in unique outcomes as opposed to other organs.

According to recent research from the United States, "Tumor suppressors prevent cancer by regulating processes such as cell proliferation and survival.

"However, their functions are diverse, and are often related to the cell type and tissue context. Mutations of tumor-suppressor genes result in unique outcomes in the nervous system that contrast with their roles in other organs," wrote S.J. Baker and colleagues, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Department of Developmental Neurobiology.
