2004 APR 21 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Prenatal exposure to organochlorines is associated with reduced levels of TNF-alpha in umbilical cord blood.
"Remote coastal populations that rely on seafood for subsistence often receive unusually high doses of organochlorines and methyl mercury," scientists in Canada explained. "Immunosuppression resulting from prenatal exposure to organochlorines has been reported in wildlife species and humans."
