ST HELENS Rugby League officials last night refused to suspend two star players who have been accused of betting on their own team to lose. Great Britain players Sean Long and Martin Gleeson have been accused of winning almost pounds 1,000 each after putting money on St Helens to lose last Monday's away game against Bradford Bulls.
Both players remain in the Saints squad but were left out of the team for last night's Super League match against Salford.
The allegation is that Long, 27, and Gleeson, 23,knew their team was ravaged by injury after a game on Friday against Wigan and would have to field a weakened side.
