In the past year there has been a great deal of publicity over the beauty and ecological significance of the Pascagoula River Basin, the last major free-flowing river in North America without a dam on the main channel.
In addition to a one-hour documentary on Mississippi Public Television, both Coast daily newspapers have done a series of articles and photographs exploring the wild and scenic Pascagoula. The interest was sparked by the Pascagoula River Ecotourism Study that looked at the potential to enhance the economy while fostering preservation of the Pascagoula River watershed in Jackson and George counties.
