LORD Geraint of Ponterwyd, one of Wales's leading Liberal Democrat political figures,died on Saturday aged 79.
The former Welsh leader of the party,he will be remembered as a passionate campaigner for the countryside.
Known simply as ``Geraint'' to the people he represented, he was a constituency MP who involved himself heavily in local community issues.
He was MP for Cardigan, then Ceredigion and Pembroke North,from 1974 to 1992.
Yesterday, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Charles Kennedy, said he would ``miss deeply this much treasured Celtic cousin''.
