The Guthrie Theater rising on the Minneapolis riverfront holds an important place in French architect Jean Nouvel's work. It is his first building in the United States and his first completely new theater. But like the world-class architects he competes with at every turn, Nouvel has moved on since getting the Guthrie commission in 2001. From the 60-story Dentsu Tower in Tokyo, his tallest building, to a small museum for Gallic and Roman artifacts in southwestern France, Nouvel and his firm have designed significant and stunning buildings around the world.
