The Office of Thrift Supervision cracked down this week on the subprime servicing operation of Ocwen Federal Bank in Fort Lee, N.J., in what some say is a harbinger of action against other servicers.
In a supervisory agreement released Tuesday, the $1 billion-asset thrift agreed to overhaul its customer service procedures, including improving its response to complaints and filing monthly reports to the OTS.
The agreement may signal a shift by the agency. Regulators have traditionally focused on improper practices involved in originating subprime loans, including prepayment penalties and late fees, but their focus may be shifting to loan administration.
