No truck with the Japanese
There are signs that the stunning success engineered worldwide by Japanese vehicle makers in the car and, more recently, the van market will soon be followed by a third wave - trucks.
The ensuing battle is likely to be as heated as that within the car industry, where US and European firms are struggling to cope with the super-efficient Japanese car-making machine.
'You must assume that Japan's truck makers will be as successful as its car makers, unless they indicate otherwise - something they haven't done so far,' says Garyl Rhys, head of the motor industry unit at Cardiff Business School.
