Applications
Surface requirements are becoming more complex in terms of chemistry and cleanliness standards. Nonequilibrium plasmas can be used in manufacture to change the properties of polymer or metal surfaces, for solids or woven fabrics. Applications include
* promotion of adhesion, for example, in tubing for balloon catheters, by introducing oxygen functionalities into a polymer surface
* Pretreatment of materials to remove the residues left by manufacturing processes before coating or final packing: a combination of reactive (oxidative) and inert precursors can be utilised to clean a surface by chemical reaction or sputtering effects (or ...
