Gentrification in Harlem means the need for more, better housing. But in the case of Strivers Gardens, it also means turning an empty, depressed space into something useful.
The new affordable housing complex, located at 300 W. 135th St., one block from the City College of New York and a half-block from St. Nicholas Park, will feature 170 luxury condominiums.
Bernard Friedman, co-owner of Strivers Gardens Realty LLC, the developers of the project, said he hoped occupancy of the under-construction building could begin in January 2005. Bernard Friedman and his brother Robert are collaborating on the project.
