Hormel Foods Corp. and Quality Pork Processors Inc. will build a boning and packaging plant in Albert Lea, a project that will create about 200 jobs.
The $5 million, 50,000-square-foot facility will be owned by Hormel and leased by Quality Pork Processors, which slaughters and cuts fresh pork for Hormel.
The Austin-based companies conceived the project under the auspices of Gov. Tim Pawlenty's controversial JOBZ program, which establishes tax-free zones in economically depressed rural areas.
