Washington, D.C. -- Gwen Spurrier's preteen daughter, Anne, came home from school one day 10 years ago and told her mother that one of her Catholic school teachers had described abortion rights supporters as murderers.
Spurrier, of Shakopee, had vivid memories of a college friend who almost died as the result of an illegal abortion and another friend who can't have children for the same reason. Until that point, she had kept her abortion rights opinions to herself.
"But when I heard her say that, I had to sit down with her and say, `OK, we need to talk.' "
