A CORPSE in the mountains is not that People who lose bets with the weather often turn up, somewhat stiffer, months or years later. When, in September, some German climbers chanced upon a body on a glacier near the border between Italy and Austria, they reported it to the authorities thinking that would be that. But, on a closer look, the body was odd. The man was dressed mainly in leather. odder still, his gloves were made of birch bark, and his boots were filled with straw and birchwood chippings. And what about the hatchet, and the bow and arrows? Evidently he had been lying around for more than a few months. The body was taken to Austria for expert examination.
