SEOUL, March 22 Asia Pulse - The number of South Koreans investing in stocks decreased slightly in 2003 from 2002, as retail investors increasingly fled the local bourses, a stock market operator said Monday.

The Korea Stock Exchange (KSE) said local stock investors numbered 3.94 million as at the end of 2003, down 37,000 from a year earlier.

The figure amounted to 17.2 per cent of the country's labor force, which means that one out of every six Korean workers invests in stocks, it said.

The number of stock investors peaked at 4.18 million in 1999, but it dropped to 4 million in 2000 and 3.88 million in 2001 before rising to 3.97 million in ...
