"We have come to speak to you because we know that the World Council of Churches is truly committed to justice and human rights. We are aware of the very important work the World Council of Churches has done in overthrowing the dictator Pinochet in Chile." These were the words spoken by one of the World Bank officials as he opened his contributions to the discussions during a recent encounter (October 2003) between the WCC and officials of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund at their headquarters in Washington DC.
