I met Sue Lloyd Roberts over the garden fence when we were both living in Muswell Hill, North London. Sue was my neighbour long before she became a familiar face on the television news, reporting for the BBC from trouble spots around the world and doughtily defending the underdog in her inimitable no-nonsense fashion.
But it was after we became friends and travelled to Tibet together that I witnessed the remarkable courage that contributed to her being made an MBE.
If caught filming in a restricted area, she would pipe up: 'I am just an English housewife!'
