WASHINGTON, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In formal comments submitted to the Nutrition Subcommittee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Food Advisory Committee, Robert Earl, MPH, RD, Senior Director of Nutrition Policy for the National Food Processors Association (NFPA), made the following remarks:
"NFPA believes that FDA should reconsider the total fat disqualifying level for heart health claims. The Agency has already waived this criterion, and replaced it with a disclosure statement, for several heart-related health claims: the health claims for stanol esters and sterol esters, and the qualified health claims for walnuts and nuts.
